The Horksboffal
A downloadable Blender Mesh
What is it?
The Horksboffal is an ancient swamp-dwelling creature.
It is neither malevolent or benevolent - it makes the choice in the moment.
It is extremely old, intelligent, and wise.
It respects honourable creatures, and will not tolerate abuse in its swamp.
It has abilities and powers that cannot be explained.
Why'd you make it?
It's an ancient deity - one of the first creatures born from the universe itself. I made it as the initial quest-giver for an RPG game I tried to make, who gave the player magical powers.
It was in a swamp/forest, and watched the player at night, and when you investigate, you find it.
Since the game was sprite based and low poly, the creature was designed with this in mind - thus the pixelated look of the texture, and the low poly mesh.
I would like to finish the texture at some point, but that's probably not going to happen.
Why am I selling it?
- Because my hard drives are full of stuff I've made that no one else ever sees.
- I do love this creature, and I think the parts I did texture are beautifully done, if I do say so myself.
- I'm struggling at the moment, somewhat due to current world events, so I'm hoping that some generous people like what they see and want it.
What do YOU get?
You get:
- a zip file (820 kB)
- the blender file (1.5 MB)
- the unfinished hand-painted texture (512 x 512 pixels, 524 kb png)
- the farmer's texture
- the satisfaction of supporting an indie developer
What's in the Blender File?
- Two Collections:
- Horksboffal
- The Horksboffal's body mesh (it is mirrored with an active Mirror modifier)
- The Horksboffal's "dangly" mesh (bits of swamp hanging off the main body, also mirrored)
- Metaball Mesh
- The original metaball mesh reference I used to make the mesh
- The original metaball mesh reference I used to make the mesh
- Horksboffal
- Unwrapped UVs (just basic unwrap, nothing fancy, and since the mesh is mirrored, the texture has been unwrapped and painted with that in mind)
- The Farmer mesh as a bonus for scale
There isn't much of an armature - it only has a root and a jaw bone. This mesh is essentially not rigged - but it shouldn't be too hard to rig up, it's quite large and the limbs are spread out.
Note that The Horksboffal's single texture image handles both UVs (ie. one texture for two meshes). The farmer has his own texture file and UVs.
